Sustainable biomass solutions
with high capacity and low treatment costs
The need for more sustainable treatment of organic waste streams is evident. Volumes are increasing and resources are depleting. In addition, we are starting to see how much environmental damage irresponsible handling of waste can cause. As a result of this, policies for how we gather and treat these waste streams are gradually becoming stricter.
Utilizing waste heat and producing biochar is good for the environment. However, sustainability is measured in impact, not virtue – it does not matter how environmentally friendly the technology is if no one buys it. We need responsible technology that does not sacrifice on either performance or cost.
Introducing the Hellenes Bio-TTU
The Hellenes Bio-TTU enables fast, reliable, environmentally friendly, and cost efficient treatment of organic waste. The treatment is highly flexible in regard to dry matter content (15-95%), consistency, and heating value of the input. In addition, by utilizing waste heat as the main energy source, it can reduce CO2-e emissions by up to 60% compared to competing technologies.
The Bio-TTU is the result of many years of R&D and testing. Our patent pending technology offers superior heat transfer capability and therefore high capacity in a small unit. Smaller units mean less cost and less complexity.
We offer two different treatment solutions for biomass: Drying and Pyrolysis
Drying Applications
Thermally removing water from a substance requires high amounts of energy (around 0,8 kW per liter). Mechanical dewatering requires less energy, but can typically only get dry matter content up to around 25 - 35%.
Using the Bio-TTU for drying have several benefits:
Produces a product with up to 100% DM
High capacity: Up to 2 MT/hr with 40% DM input
Can utilize waste heat or recycled process heat to power unit which greatly reduces electricity demand and thus also CO2 emissions.
Effective for also feedstock with lower dry matter content (15-20%)
Effective for feedstock with variable energy value, DM-content, composition, shape, size, and viscosity
The Bio-TTU can be configured in a number of ways depending on type and quantity of substance, available waste heat and available waste heat offtake. Here are some examples:
Pyrolysis Application
The market for pyrolysis applications is growing and the benefits are clear: carbon storage, clean energy production, and useful byproducts.
The Bio-TTU can be configured to combine drying and pyrolysis:
High capacity
Utilizes syngas / pyrolysis oil as energy source, greatly reducing electricity consumption and CO2 emissions
Effective for feedstock with lower dry matter content (15-20%)
Effective for feedstock with variable energy value, DM-content, composition, shape, size, and viscosity
